Qimen
Known in China as the "King of Red Teas",
and more commonly known outside as Keemun, this is the most famous
Chinese red tea. Grown in Qimen county in southern
Anhui province, we've even heard Qimen described as the burgundy of
teas. Qimen is low-grown with an attractive, slender, tightly curled leaf
that has been fully fermented. Qimen is complex, sweet, fruity, unusually full-bodied,
and renowned for its dark red liquor with an orchid or rose-like
fragrance. This is one of the few Chinese teas
that can handle the western liking for milk and its not too
surprising that the original English Breakfast Tea had Qimen at its
heart. Qimen is very useful
for making iced tea due to its resistance to cloudiness.
