West Lake Dragon Well

This is China's most famous green tea and rightly prized since the Tang dynasty. The well in the name is near Hangzhou and is named after a benevolent dragon in Chinese mythology.

Unique in appearance with its flat pressed leaf sets, this attractive pan-fired tea presents a rich aroma and smooth, full-bodied flavour. Its distinctly fresh, sweet taste places it among the most delightful of all green teas.

We recommend this as a revitalizing all-day tea or as a digestive after a heavy meal. An excellent introduction to the joys of green tea.

We offer three grades at present, from the excellent Special Second to our affordable everyday Third grade.

Plum Castle Dragon Well

As Chateau Lafite is to claret, so Plum Castle is to Dragon Well. This tea's beautiful bright green colour and extraordinary evenness of leaf size and shape make it a tribute to the artistry of its creators. From the quality of the leaf to the skill of the firers, all aspects of green tea craftsmanship come together in this superb Plum Castle Dragon Well.

In the cup it produces a beautiful champagne-coloured golden liquor with a complex flavour rich with sweet, savoury and floral notes and a lingering mellow finish. An extremely refined and elegant tea to savour and contemplate.

Shaoxing Dragon Well

True Dragon Well tea comes from Hangzhou, but in nearby Shaoxing we have tracked down a family growing, picking and firing tea from their own Dragon Well bushes. Nestled in a sacred mountain valley this small farm produces a clear yellow-green coloured tea with a sweet, fresh flavour and delicious aroma.

Never exported from China before and only available from us, this is an economical alternative to high grade West Lake teas.

Our osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans) from Guilin is highly prized for its uniquely fragrant blossoms and is often used in the production of costly perfumes.

In our West Lake Osmanthus Dragon Well the fusion of floral osmanthus and rich, smooth Dragon Well results in a delicious full-bodied tea that is memorably sweet and floral.
